If you saw last week’s post featuring a quick before and after of a client’s home here in Charlotte, you’re going to love today’s post revealing the details behind the family room. The transformation at this home was truly amazing to see come together with a few cosmetic changes and some additional furniture items. I’m so glad to see this lovely couple enjoying their home together now that it’s all complete! Click through to see all the details of their new family room.
First things first, if you missed it – check out the Before & After post including the family room in order to see how amazing the transformation really was! Now for a little background on how this all went down. The family room seemed a little awkward at first, the beautiful built ins were under utilized, and the large u-shaped sectional made the room feel so much smaller when it was up against the wall. The layout of the room was the first to change – we moved the sectional to the opposite wall and while it covered up some storage cabinets, it made the room feel so much more open and spacious. This gave the ability to mount the TV on the large wall to create a new focal point in the room. (and a DIY media stand that my client made from scratch! How amazing is that??)
After the layout of the room was resolved, we tackled the cosmetic issues; lighting, moving the cable wires, etc. This room did not have a lighting source, just an old white ceiling fan – so we added recessed lighting and switched out the ceiling fan to bring in the darker wood tones that we started to pull into the space. Just the lighting alone made such a difference. We then aded a new coffee table, bar stools, and a new curtain rod to tie in the contrasting woods/ black hardware to make everything pop! The last thing on the list was to style the built-in bookshelves and make everything pretty!
